People who own Apple HomePod can now use the new intercom feature which has now been announced. This feature helps to send messages between HomePod smart speakers. Asides just the intercom feature, Apple still added some other new features which all arrived through a software update.
This Apple HomePod update is a notable achievement for the device based on the fact it aids the device meet up with most common smart speakers like Amazon Echo and Google Home which have helped with messaging systems for some years now.
Apple took a step further in the system update of HomePod as it has gone beyond just being a usual messaging system that sends voice messages across the Apple family HomePod speakers. This smart speaker is now designed to work across Apple’s device ecosystem as support has been added for iPhone, iPad, AirPods, CarPlay, and Apple Watch. This advancement made by Apple has given it a competitive edge among other smart devices.
For you to be able to use intercom as an HomePod owner having multiple devices, you can give commands like:
- “Hey Siri, tell everyone, Dinner is ready”.
- “Hey Siri, intercom, has anyone seen my glasses?”
The above are examples of commands HomePod owners can give. To reply, you can say, “Hey Siri, reply, Yes”.
Another feature that comes with the software update is the deeper integration with iPhone and Apple Map. With this, you can stop and set alarms and timers from your HomePod. Using your HomePod, you can now ask Siri for traffic condition information, restaurant information, and information about other businesses. Once you give the command to Siri on your iPhone, a suggestion will automatically appear in Maps on your phone. Also, HomePod owners can ask Siri to search the web for the information they want.

Apple is also going to add the “Personal Update” feature which will help HomePod users ask Siri “What’s my update”. Once this is asked, information about news, calendar events, weather, and many more will be given.
