Apple has proven to be more secure than any of its competitors for years, this is because it restricted people from accessing its software. The company is ready to go on a different part. It will commence giving out “Security Research Device” (SRD) iPhones to security researchers so that they can grasp the devices’ security vulnerabilities.
The company added that if researchers can find any vulnerability through using the SRD, it must report it to Apple or an appropriate third party if its in third-party code. Apple will have to address the issue and give a “publication date” when it will hold. As for now, the researchers cant share their progress with anyone. The program participants will have full access to extensive documentation and legit forum with Apple engineers.
The SRD phones are used in controlling setting only and will be adding unmatched access that usual iPhones dont normally possess, such as root shell access and the ability to run custom commands.
Apple said they are not meant to be used outside because they are not designed for personal use and must stay within the premises of the researchers at all times. The SRD program will run simultaneously with its bug bounty program, which was open to all researchers the previous year.
Participants earned a reward of $1million and file security bug reports. They must be an Account Holder in the Apple Developer Program, a proven track record of finding security issues, and be based in an eligible country or region.
