A recent update of Facebook’s app has caused a lot of users to experience problems. The problem is that their profile picture appears as a grey box or no picture at all. For many, it is just a minor issue that can be fixed easily by reinstalling or updating apps and restarting your phone.

Firstly, try restarting your phone. Sometimes just turning it off and then on again is enough to resolve a lot of problems that happen with smartphones. If that does not work, try clearing cache data and app data of both Facebook and Messenger apps.
To do so, go to Settings>Apps or Application Manager (depends upon your phone model)>Facebook and then Clear Cache Data.
Troubleshooting Tips
There are a few things you can try. First, if you have a newer version of Android with support for animated GIFs, try uploading one of those instead. You can easily create an animated GIF using Google Photos—just select multiple photos and click Create Animation in your editor.
It’s also possible that you’re encountering an issue with WiFi or mobile data; make sure your phone is connected via a solid internet connection and that Use Less Data isn’t selected under Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
If none of these tips help you resolve your issue, it might be time to simply contact customer service. Not all issues are due to app bugs; many could be caused by a faulty device or something out of our control.
Log Out and Back In
Some people might tell you that you need to log out of your account and then back in again. However, others might suggest resetting your app data.
These approaches can be enough, but they won’t always solve your problem. In fact, some users report that they’ve tried them multiple times without seeing a change.
If you have several social media accounts connected to your phone, it’s also possible that one account is screwing up how another works.
Clear Cache
Make sure your device has power by plugging it into a wall charger for 15 minutes. If you have a third-party case or cover, try removing it. Boot up your phone into safe mode: To boot into safe mode, turn off your device.
Turn it back on and wait for the manufacturer’s logo or Safe Mode text to appear in about 30 seconds or so. Your home screen will look slightly different than usual, with a few icons missing; that’s because these are third-party apps you don’t have installed.
