Google Maps has made it even easier to locate a bike ride close to you. Starting Monday, Google Map’s bicycle navigations will list bike-share services as a route option. You will be able to find the nearest station, where you can drop off the bike near your destination after use, and how many bicycles are available in that station.
The bike-share listings will commence in 10 cities which include; New York City, Chicago, Washington DC, London, San Fransico Bay Area, Montreal, Mexico, Taipei, and New Taipei City Taiwan, Rio De Janeiro Brazil, and Sao Paulo Brazil. Maps will link to some apps which will be made available according to your cities.
A certain interest in biking has risen since the COVID-19 pandemic started. Google has tracked a 69% increase in the use of cycling directions in Google Maps since February. The company search interest was at an all-time blow up at the end of May and into June.
Lyft’s Citi Bike in New York City is one of the docked bike services that will be added into Google Maps directions. The easier access to shared bikes comes as the service hit its 100 millionth ride. It’s been operating in the city since 2013 and the 1,000th station is supposed to be installed in the Bronx next month.
Back in April, a Trek Bicycle survey of 1,000 Americans found 85% percent of them saw cycling as one of the safest means of transportation during the coronavirus outbreak. Lime, which recently obtained Uber’s Jump e-bikes and already shares its e-scooter availability on Google Maps, released current information that showed people were taking longer and more frequent e-bikes rides.
