As Instagram is continuously making an effort to increase accessibility and staying up to date with trends, it has announced that it will be rolling out voice messaging on Instagram direct globally.
As at 10th of December 2018, it was made possible for users to be able to send and receive voice messages up to one minute long in both personal and group chats.
A lot of people do not know about this voice messaging or probably have no idea how to use it. So, we are going to discuss that in this article.
How You Can Send Voice Message on Instagram
If you happen to be among those people that have no idea how to send a voice message on Instagram, here are the simple guidelines on how to do so:
- First, you will have to open your Instagram app and go to your messages.
- Choose the person you want to send the voice message to and open your chat page with the person.
- Click hold on the microphone icon to record your message.
- After recording, you can then release your hold in order to send, or you can swipe left to the trash if you don’t like what you recorded and still hold on to the microphone icon to record again.

You need to have it in mind that ones you release your hand from the microphone icon, your voice message will be sent. So, the best option is to keep holding on it till you are done recording before you can then release your hand to send the voice message.
This particular feature has been available on WhatsApp and Facebook messenger for long.
How You Can Send A Voice Message on Instagram Group Chat
Sending a voice message on Instagram direct message is so similar to sending to a group chat.
Generally, sending a voice message is also similar to sending a written or photo message, if you are familiar with how to DM on Instagram then you will know this. Follow the instructions below to know how to send a voice message on Instagram group chat though it is the same as the guidelines given above.
- You begin by opening your Instagram app and then go to your messages.
- Then go to the group chat where you want to send the voice message and open the chat page.
- When you open up the chat page, then click hold on the microphone icon to start recording your message.
Note: the voice message will be sent if you release your hand from the microphone icon.
- After you are done recording your voice message, you can then release your hand in order to send your message. or if you are not okay with what you recorded, you swipe to the left to trash it and then hold on the microphone icon to record again.
With that, you have been able to send a voice message to the people in the group. And ones you send the voice message, everyone in the group will receive it.
