How to Collect Federal Government N20,000 (Stipends) Cash Transfer – Currently, the FGN has started out with the disbursing N5,000 to more than a million citizens all around Nigeria.
This initiative came directly from the office of the President (His Excellency, General Muhammadu Buhari). Disbursement of these funds are being carried out under the order of the President. This conditional cash transfer for the next two months was carried out on Wednesday, 1st April 2020 by the Minister of Humanitarian, Disaster Management and Social Development (Hajiya Sadiya Forouq). It took place in Kwali Central Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
N20,000 was given to more than 190 indigents across the country which came to the Kwali Central Area Council. These funds were disbursed to the beneficiaries for 4 months (N5,000 per month).
Before the beneficiaries were given these funds, verification was done by the body in charge of the programme. The stipends were disbursed to the beneficiaries after the verification and scanning of their payment cards.
The Minister in charge of this programme went ahead to make certain statements regarding the scheme. He said:
“The exercise commenced about five years ago and it is geared towards supporting the poor and vulnerable households of our society.”
He also went ahead to say: “We give them monthly stipends of N5000 every month and now that we have these restrictions, Mr. President has directed that we give them two months advance payment and we are here today to carry out that directive of paying the two months advance payment.”
Meeting with the National Programme Coordinator, Dr. Temitope Sinkaiye, she said that another 1 million indigents would benefit from the programme from this time till the year comes to an end.
Federal Government Cash N Cash Transfer Process
To explain to the public how this scheme works, Dr. Temitope Sinkaiye made the following statements:
“The process of identification is a long process that involves community members themselves identifying those who are poor and vulnerable in their sight. So, the team moves from community to community and the community members determine what poverty means in their village and those who fall within their definition of poverty.”
“Here, we are not talking about book or academic definition, we are talking of community members themselves deciding what poverty means and then identify people who by their perception fall into the category and then we collect the names from the community.”
