After you have received and accepted an invitation to become a creator, you will be able to create NFTs. But before we show you how to do that, let’s understand the term NFT.
NFTs (“Non-Fungible Tokens”) are designed as one-of-a-kind tokens that represent a unique good or asset, like digital art. NFTs can be sold in auctions for collectors to bid on or purchase. The sale of NFTs unlocks new revenue streams for creators.
When we talk about minting an NFT, it means how your digital art becomes a part of the Ethereum blockchain-a public ledger which is unchangeable and tamper-proof. This is quite similar to the way that metal coins are minted and added into circulation. NFTs can also be said to be tokens that get “minted” once they are created. Your digital artwork is being represented as an NFT so it can then be purchased and traded in the market and digitally tracked as it is resold or collected again in the future.
Minting an NFT
Are you ready to create an NFT? if you are then there are some factors you need to get familiar with. These factors could sway your decision on where and how to create your first NFT. What you have to understand first, is that several blockchains support the NFT token standard. The list includes:
- Ethereum
- Binance Smart Chain
- Flow by Dapper Labs
- Tron
- Tezos
- Cosmos
- EOS
- WAX
- Polkadot
After you have successfully minted your first NFT on any of the blockchains listed above, you must understand that it is most likely impossible to transfer them or sell them on other blockchains. Thus, you have to take the time to research the pros as well as the cons of each blockchain’s NFT ecosystem before you make a decision
For this guide, we will be exploring the minting procedure for NFTs on Ethereum. Ethereum currently stands as the most popular hub for NFTs. Ethereum is followed by Binance Smart Chain, which is more affordable as regards transaction fees. This means that Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain host the biggest marketplaces for NFTs and offer more exposure to NFT buyers.
The blockchain you choose determines the array of NFT marketplaces you can choose from. For Ethereum blockchain, you can access a rich list of NFT platforms. They include Opensea, Rarible, and Mintable. Binance Smart Chain, on the other hand, gives you access to NFT marketplaces like BakerySwap, Juggerworld, and Treasureland.
To mint NFTs on Opensea:
- Start by visiting the official Opensea platform. Then click on the “Create “menu on the top right corner of the website.
- Go through with the prompt to connect your MetaMask wallet and digitally sign a message on your wallet to confirm the ownership of the address.
- After you have done this, you can hover your cursor on the “Create” menu on Opensea and click “My Collections”.
- On the new page, tap on the blue “Create” button and proceed to upload the artwork for your song, gifs, art or other supported digital items.
- Then add the name and description of your file and upload a banner image at the top of the page.
- After you have submitted the required information, you can proceed to upload the image, art, audio or 3D model.
- There’s an option to set special traits for the uploaded item. Here, you can set the scarcity, uniqueness or even locks for the NFT.
- Once you are done with the extra customization, you can click on “Create” to mint the NFT.
- However, you will have to confirm the creation of the NFT on your wallet by signing another message. Immediately after the confirmation, your NFT should appear as a collectible on your wallet.
- Then, you can list the NFT on the marketplace by clicking on the “Edit” tab. You’ll be directed to a page where you can choose the ERC-20 token you want to receive as payment and set a royalty clause.
You can see how easy it is to mint an NFT. The steps highlighted here sum up the procedure most often used by other popular NFT marketplaces, irrespective of the blockchain they support.

Cheapest Way to Mint NFT
One of the cheapest platforms to mint NFT is on Mintbase. Mintbase is a global platform that allows anyone access to create NFTs without bothering about technical complexities. On this platform, artists can create NFTs to sell digital art, musicians on the other hand can use them for music, and event organizers can use them in selling tickets for their next event. You can think of Mintbase as a “Shopify” for NFTs. Here, people are creating and selling music, art, memberships, photography, and much more. Simply put, anything other than money can be tokenized.
To make NFT minting cheaper, the Mintbase team found a better blockchain platform in NEAR. NEAR gas fees are much lower than Ethereum’s. This is because NEAR has more efficient contract execution model which requires less computation and because it uses a dynamic sharding approach known as Nightshade. As a result, deploying a store and minting NFTs on Mintbase will become a significantly cheaper option.

How to Mint an NFT for Free
The option we will be recommending here is known as S!ng. Currently, it is only available on iOS. However, the company plans on releasing a macOS app soon and eventually Android, but there’s no firm timeline for the latter. You can only use this website version once you’ve signed up for the service on the iOS app because the web edition is not available as a standalone app.
S!ng allows you to create essentially any type of NFT with support for capturing photos, videos, or audio in the app, and a file uploader for other types of content you’ve made which could be turned into an NFT. This is important as there are currently no editing features. This unless you are sharing something at the idea stage, you will typically want to use the file upload method.
The amazing part about S!ng is that you don’t need to know anything about NFTs or cryptocurrency to use it. All you need to do is simply download it from the App Store, create your account, and you are all set to go. This app even creates an Ethereum wallet for you that will store your content.
After you have installed the app, provide your email address to register for the service. From, pick a name to use on S!ng and identify what type of creator you are from a list of 10 options.
Here’s how to create your first NFT for free:
- Click on the circular button which is at the bottom of the screen.
- Choose the icon for the content you want to create/upload (File, photo, video or audio).
- Capture or upload the content.
- Edit the name for the NFT if you wish.
- Then add notes, collaborators or associated files by tapping the plus button
- Click on the “Submit” button.
Now the app will generate your NFT. This should take just a few seconds for the images. However, the time may vary depending on the file size you are uploading as well as the network speed. Apparently S!ng tested up to 150GB files, but there’s no specific upward limit for the file sizes.
