The Amazon Echo range of smart speakers are must-haves in every home as they feature not only music play, they also stream podcasts, play audiobooks, you can use them to control the smart devices in your home through voice command and interaction, and lots more functions that are not available on your regular speakers. Most times when people buy smart speakers, a larger number of them are mostly concerned about using them to play music. Well, if you’re one of such people and you’re wondering how you can play free music on your echo dot, here are a couple of ways.
Use Amazon Music
To get access to play your free Amazon music on your echo dot, you need to first install the “Alexa” app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App store, depending on the device you’re using. Launch the Alexa app and tap on the “Play” tab at the bottom of the homepage. Go to “More Music Streaming Services” and tap on the blue “Explore” link. Under “Link Service”, you would find a link among the text, in blue which reads “Music Settings”, tap on it. While in “Default Services”, under “Default Music Library”, select “Amazon Music”. Scroll down to “Default Station” and select “Amazon Music” also. Although you can’t compare the advantages of choosing Spotify over Amazon music when it comes to the number of available tracks to choose from, but Amazon music definitely has some benefits to using it, even it’s a free feature. Added to the benefit of offline access, you can also select the songs of your choice from the available tracks with free access.

Use Spotify
Although Spotify is a paid music streaming service, you can also access playlists for free, although this free version has a lot of restrictions including selecting a song of your choice outside the given playlists. To get access to play your free Spotify music on your echo dot, you need to install the “Alexa” app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App store, depending on the device you’re using. Launch the Alexa app and tap on the “Play” tab at the bottom of the homepage. Go to “More Music Streaming Services” and tap on the blue “Explore” link. Under “Link Service”, you would find a link among the text, in blue which reads “Music Settings”, tap on it. While in “Default Services”, under “Default Music Library”, select “Spotify”. Scroll down to “Default Station” and also select “Spotify”.
Use A Free Trial
If you’re not yet ready to pay for a music streaming service subscription, then you might as well sign up for a free trial. The free trial gives you access to the features of the paid subscription, but for a limited time. You can sign up for either Amazon 30 days free trial or Spotify 30 days free trial, but be sure to cancel on time if you don’t want to be charged after your trial expires.
Use Bluetooth
This is the simplest way to play free music on your echo dot, in case you’ve been reading through and you don’t have a Spotify or Amazon music account. You can simply turn on the Bluetooth on your device, and use the echo dot as a basic speaker. Tell Alexia to pair with Bluetooth device and the speaker would be visible to your Bluetooth. You can pair with the speaker using your device. Now you would be able to play music from your local music library.
