The idea of an extendable display on smartphones has been hovering around TCL and LG and we get to witness a working prototype. Inno Day 2020 event holding today, revealed the Oppo X 2021 concept smartphone. Just by pushing a button, the phone is able to transform between a regular 6.7-inch size and a tablet-like 7.4-inch size.
The company gave some insight into the phone. The phone was created as a motorized scroll, with an OLED panel for improved strength, as it goes around a Roll Motor on the left to tuck itself into a hidden construction. The phone itself contains a 2-in-1 Plate body construction.
In a simple illustration, the prototype immediately separated between two screen sizes, with the video reconstructing to fill the screen. Oppo also said that the user can freely customize the screen size. The company stopped short at providing further detail – no word on the screen specs, the panel’s supplier nor durability figures.
Oppo didn’t give us further specs, though it wants to unveil an AR developer co-creation program next year t leverage this piece of Kit. At the moment, the company is already working with Chinese vendors to offer consumer-grade AR apps, including video playback, gaming, and furniture placement.
