Sony has decided to go wild and support the video creation market by unveiling a project named Airpeak, which they claim will “support the creativity of video creators to the fullest extent possible,” according to a cryptic press release. If you have a YouTube channel or independent filmmaker that already uses Sony gear, you might be curious to make use of a drone with similar technology like DJI, Parrot, and Skydio.
Recently, Sony pointed out to the public saying “workflow efficiency and energy savings in the industrial sector.” In addition to that “Sony has assigned the ‘Airpeak’ brand to reflect its aspiration to contribute to the further evolvement and the creation of unprecedented value through its imaging and sensing technology as well as 3R technologies (Reality, Real-time, and Remote) in the drone area.”
GoPro thought it could take on DJI in 2016, but it turned out to be a total failure. The drone market isn’t as easy to penetrate as you think. DJI has been caught up in the US government’s growing hostility toward China-made technology. Well, it seems the Western part might favor Sony as a Japanese company. But with the second wave of the coronavirus coming, people have been stuck home without taking a vacation and reaching spots where they’d like to fly a drone. Let’s all just hope the situation will be suppressed in spring 2021 when the company intends to launch its Airspeak initiative.
