Twitter is banning thousands of accounts with QAnon and is taking a drastic approach to limit the spread of gang theory on its platform. The company said its actions were corresponding with its policies and guidelines barring “behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm,”.
With over 7,000 banned accounts associated with conspiracy theory, and has blocked 150,000 more for being visile in its recommendations. According to Twitter, supporters of the plotting theory often participate in harassment campaigns and go against the laws. The company also exposed groups, pages, and accounts which are participants of the conspiracy.
The company also added- ” We’ve been clear that we will take strong enforcement action on behavior that has the potential to lead to offline harm. In line with this approach, this week we are taking further action on so-called ‘QAnon’ activity across the service”. They will be permanently terminating accounts Tweeting about these topics that are associated with violating Twitter account policy.
Twitter also said it would limit the reach of the QAnon -related content and will block accounts related to conspiracy theory from trends and will work to make sure they dont highlight this activity in search and conversations. The company will now be preventing users from posting and sharing URLs associated with QAnon.
However, Twitter didn’t give any specifics on the company, or forums it may take impact on. Facebook also banned a list of suspected QAnon accounts this year for breaking its protocol, but proponents of such conspiracy theories remain quite active of Facebook and Instagram.
Users are warned on what they post and how they operate their accounts, once your accounts show signs of QAnon, you’re getting banned immediately. This is just to make the media a better place to be and to avid all sorts of unacceptable Tweets, comments, tags, and links.
