Top 10 Unskilled Jobs with Visa Sponsorship in Australia

1) Waiter

Waiters and waitresses bring food to patrons’ tables. They also greet customers, advise them on menu items, and take orders.

Waiters should be friendly and comfortable interacting with diverse groups of people, including foreign visitors.

Many restaurants are part of a chain, so individuals may work for different employers during their careers.

Most states require servers to be at least 18 years old and able to lift heavy trays of food weighing more than 40 pounds (18 kilograms).

In most restaurants, servers earn tips from customers as well as a salary that is usually supplemented by gratuities from patrons who pay using credit cards.

The median hourly wage for servers was $10.27 in May 2016.

2) Kitchen Hand

If you have experience in a restaurant, cafe or pub kitchen, you could get sponsorship for an Australian visa under what’s known as subclass 462.

You must have worked at least three months out of a total of six months within 18 months. The position must be unskilled and require no specialized training.

Examples include dishwashers, food servers and bar attendants. Because they are considered low-skilled jobs, it’s more difficult to get one of these positions outside major cities and holiday spots where there is already greater demand for workers.

3) Front Desk Operator

Be ready to be on your feet for long periods of time and able to attend a fast-paced work environment.

A good attitude, professionalism, and organization skills are a must. You may be asked to help with multi-tasking activities like answering phones or performing cashier duties.

This is an excellent opportunity for new graduates who want experience working in hotels, resorts, hospitals or other office environments.

You will also have an opportunity to move up within management or administration positions.

Front desk receptionist jobs are relatively easy to obtain if you have great customer service skills and can present yourself professionally during interviews.

4) Cafe Attendant

Working as a cafe attendant can be challenging and rewarding, depending on your approach.

Generally, though, it’s a good idea to go into it with an upbeat attitude and a willingness to try new things.

Don’t expect to make a killing—while you can earn $1,000 per week or more waiting tables during busy periods, you may need another part-time job on top of that if you have any hopes of affording rent in Sydney or Melbourne.

But if you don’t mind putting in long hours at times when businesses are busiest—especially around lunch time—and have some basic experience waiting tables (or working as a bartender), there are cafes all over Sydney and Melbourne that would be happy to take your application.

5) Barista

Baristas work in coffee shops and cafes, taking orders and preparing specialty drinks. Though these jobs often require little experience, you will need to be well-versed on different types of coffee beans and drinks, as well as espresso machines.

You can earn an average of $12 per hour working as a barista for a company like Starbucks or Pacific Coffee Company.

However, many coffee shops hire under an independent contractor model; you’ll pay for your own uniforms and work out a tips arrangement with customers directly.

6) Hairdresser

The occupation of hairdresser is included in The Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) under skill level 1.

You will need to complete an Apprenticeship or Traineeship for at least 2 years, with a Certificate III or IV qualification from an Australian Registered Training Organization. Most hairdressers work part-time hours and are paid by a salary or wage.

They also receive tips from clients which can add up to more than their hourly rate.

7) Retail Assistant Manager

Entry-level managers usually work as sales associates or cashiers and are promoted to assistant manager when they’ve proven themselves capable of handling greater responsibility.

To become a retail assistant manager, you need to make sure that your store is running smoothly and look for areas where improvements can be made.

A keen eye for detail is a must—you’re responsible for monitoring inventory levels, keeping stock tidy, ordering new supplies and more.

It’s also important to ensure customer satisfaction is top notch: You should greet every customer who enters your store and be knowledgeable about current promotions.

A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required for retail assistant manager jobs.

8) Storeperson – Woolworths, Coles and Aldi Stores

To get a storeperson job you need to be able to work on your feet for long periods of time, be able to lift heavy objects and have an eye for detail.

Once you complete a training program you will work as part of a team ensuring stores are clean and tidy and shelves are fully stocked.

You will also work with customers on maintaining a tidy checkout area. You should also enjoy being part of a team.

As long as you can get sponsorship, Woolworths can provide you with opportunities across its national network from Tasmania through to Western Australia! Salary starts at $38k – $45k ($26-30hr) depending on location.

9) Sales Associate – Woolworths, Coles and Aldi Stores

We’re always told to strive for a job that we love, but sometimes it can be difficult to achieve that when you don’t have a degree.

If you enjoy meeting new people and having face-to-face interactions then working at Woolworths, Coles or Aldi could be just what you need.

Sales associates are required to help customers find products quickly and assist them at checkouts by processing their orders, ringing up purchases and collecting payment.

This role is typically low skilled and requires very little formal education (GED is often enough).

However, top performers can potentially earn thousands of dollars per month as sales bonuses are built into their salary.

10) Cleaner (except industrial cleaners and licensed vacuum cleaners/polishers)

Cleaners help keep workplaces, retail establishments, hospitals and other work places clean.

These workers may do general cleaning or specialize in a particular area such as washing walls, floors or removing graffiti.

They may vacuum or sweep floors, empty wastebaskets and trash containers, disinfect toilets and wash windows.

If you are not interested to get a valid visa then you can also come on tourist visa . Tourist visa is also valid for six months but it does not provide any sponsorship for permanent residency.

You need to renew your tourist visa every two years to stay long-term in Australia.
